The mayor of Plettenberg, Germany, has banned cacti from all municipal buildings after a man injured himself on a cactus in a school. Concerned for the safety of staff and children, Ulrich Schulte ordered the removal of all spiny plants, calling them potential hazards. The council hasn't disclosed the nature of the injury "due to the need to protect the personal rights and privacy of our staff". The mind boggles.
